Gold is the world’s favorite metal when it comes to jewelry and ways of investing one’s money for the toughest economic times. For those investors that are serious about using it as a way of protecting one’s fortune against inflation, using gold bars is probably the most convenient way of storing it. These bars are designed to be stored and they are manufactured at different prices, types and weights. Depending on the type of bar of gold, the manufacturing process can vary. All in all, one can find three main gold bar types and two methods used to manufacture them. First you have the big ingots which have a weight that is fairly accurate. Next, you have the gold ingots which are small and their weight is extremely precise. Finally, you have the gold bars that are horizontal or long sized and which are used usually to create minted bars.

The methods used to create the gold bar is either the minted or the casting method. The cast bullion is created by melting the gold and then pouring the liquid in a mold. As for the minted ingots, there are created by cutting it with a gold piece.

The method which is common is the casting of gold bars. There are two steps with casting, that of purification and that of liquefaction. Purifying the gold can be a dangerous and complicated process. The gold is heated in a pan, after which it’s poured in a container and when it cools down, the gold bar is formed. There are two methods of cooling down the gold bar, either by placing that mold in a tank with water or by using the open air to do the job. Once the cooling period is over, the gold bar will be cleaned.
